Kubernetes and containerization at scale has precipitated the need for service meshes. Service meshes have enabled mutual TLS between services, distributed tracing and simply connecting services in a very dynamic environment. Many people don't see a need for configuration management in a world with kubernetes and service mesh but for most large organizations the applications running in kubernetes will need to talk to the "legacy" environment. In this session we will look at how configuration management can help bridge the gap between the old world and the new world. We'll look at how Puppet can be used to automate the installation and configuration of service mesh agents.
